Raupo Street service upgrades restart on Monday, 27 June

On display until August 20, 2022, 12:00 AM

Partly completed infrastructure service upgrades in Raupo Street that were started late last year will enter the final stage of completion from next week. The delay has been due to contractors having to wait for materials to be delivered from Auckland.

To finish the stormwater and wastewater upgrades, as well as make provision for the continuation of stormwater separation along Hinau Street, the intersection of Raupo Street and Hinau Street will be closed from Monday, 27 June until Friday, 19 August 2022. Please note that through traffic will not be able to use the Raupo Street / Hinau Street intersection – Raupo Street and Hinau Street will effectively operate as cul-de-sacs during the work period.

The installation of stormwater and wastewater pipes in this area will allow for the separation of these flows, and significantly improve stormwater and wastewater levels of service Whanganui District Council provides to the community.

This work will also reduce wet weather flows in the city’s wastewater system, reducing the risk of flooding that is key to meeting environmental objectives. The upgrade will also accommodate current and anticipated growth in Whanganui’s urban area.

This project is being funded from central government’s Three Waters Stimulus Project funding that was launched in July 2020 following the COVID-19 lockdowns – more information here.
