As part of managing the invasive water weed hornwort (Ceratophyllum demersum) in Lake Wiritoa, Whanganui District Council contractors will spray Reglone herbicide in the designated public swimming and water skiing areas on Monday, 28 November 2022.
Depending on the weather, the alternative date for spraying is Tuesday, 29 November 2022.
Signs will be displayed advising of the spray operation during the work period.
If you live within one kilometre of Lake Wiritoa and use or draw water from the lake, you are advised not to bath in it, use it for human consumption, or use it for fish farming or livestock watering for 24 hours after application.
Please also note that swimming in the lake is prohibited for 24 hours after the herbicide application, and water should not be used for overhead irrigation for 10 days after treatment.
