Whanganui District Council has responded to the Government’s weekend announcements by making changes to its levels of service and closing some venues, effective today.

The moves are intended to minimise contact during the current COVID-19 situation.

The following Council facilities are now CLOSED to the public from Monday, 23 March, 2020:

  • The Davis, Alexander and Gonville libraries. Options for home delivery are being considered.
  • The Sarjeant Gallery
  • The Whanganui War Memorial Centre, Royal Wanganui Opera House and Cooks Gardens
  • Whanganui i-SITE Visitor Information Centre
  • The Innovation Quarter

The Durie Hill Elevator closed on Saturday, 21 March 2020.

Whanganui Airport is now closed to the public, except for passengers, from Monday, 23 March, 2020. The café will also be closed.

The Infrastructure Building at 179 St Hill Street will close to the public from 12 noon on Monday, 23 March, 2020.

Council Customer Services at 101 Guyton Street will remain open. However, there will be a reduction in the levels of service by Monday afternoon, 23 March, 2020. Some changes will include:

  • A chicane installed to ensure distancing from the public
  • Removal of the concierge service
  • Removal of all touch screens and keyboards
  • No face-to-face meetings with members of the public

After Tuesday’s Council Meeting, all Committee and other Council meetings will be postponed until further notice.
