Preliminary results – 2019 triennial local authority elections – Councillors for Whanganui District Council

Preliminary results of the 2019 local authority election – Whanganui District have now been published on the Whanganui District Council website.

A preliminary result means that a very high percentage of all the votes received have been captured, only excluding special votes that have yet to be verified via the Wellington enrolment centre.

The preliminary results for Councillors for Whanganui District Council (12 vacancies) are as follows:

The final declared result, including all special votes, is expected to be available from mid-next week (week ending Sunday, 20 October 2019).  It will be published as a public notice in the Whanganui Chronicle and on the Whanganui District Council website.  

As the number of candidates did not exceed the number of vacancies, Hamish Crichton McDouall was earlier declared elected unopposed as Mayor of Whanganui District.

As the number of candidates did not exceed the number of vacancies, 7 Members for the Whanganui Rural Community Board were elected unopposed:

Whanganui Subdivision: David John Wells

Kai Iwi Subdivision: Michael Kennith Dick, Sandra Faye Falkner and Grant Andrew Skilton

Kaitoke Subdivision: William Mataio (Bill) Ashworth and Alistair Keith Duff

 

Preliminary poll results - Whanganui District Council

Electoral system poll (binding)

10573 voted for First Past the Post                     

2566 voted for Single Transferable Vote            

Representation poll - Basis of election (non-binding)

2310 voted for a ward system to be considered by the Council

10332 voted to keep the voting area system as it is now - 'at large'

Representation poll – Number of councillors (non-binding)

5224 voted for the number of councillors to remain at 12           

8037 voted for the number of councillors to be reduced to 10                 

 

Whanganui District Health Board election

A progress result is expected to be available on Saturday evening, 12 October, 2019

Once votes are in from the Whanganui district, a progress result will be e-mailed to candidates. After candidates have been e-mailed, the progress result will be published on the Whanganui District Council website.

A preliminary result is expected to be available on Sunday evening, 13 October, 2019

The preliminary result will not include special votes that have yet to be verified via the Wellington enrolment centre.

A final declared result is expected to be available late next week (week ending Sunday, 20 October, 2019).
