Restricted fire season – Whanganui coast and urban area

Fire and Emergency NZ has advised that the Manawatū-Whanganui Coastal Zone will move to a restricted fire season from 8am on Friday 12 January until further notice due to warm temperatures, drying winds and a lack of rainfall.
A restricted fire season means anyone planning on lighting an open-air fire will need a permit.
Please be aware of the fire risk conditions – if in doubt, don't light!

Apply for rates remission

For the 2023/24 financial year (starting in July 2023) the council is making a one-off rates remission (reduction) of up to $500 available for households facing a rates rise higher than $700.

Proposed reserve name change

Submissions closed at 5.00pm on Friday, 13 December 2019.

A Council-owned reserve at 29 Puriri Street is currently known as Braves Ballpark.

The Whanganui Softball Association (WSA) leases the premises from the Council and has the licence to occupy the reserve grounds.

Whanganui Softball Association has made a request to change the name of the Braves Ballpark to the Whanganui Ballpark, to reflect that it is to benefit all things softball, representative of all the local softball clubs
