This policy is a revised version of the existing Signs Bylaw 2015 in order to make the signage rules clearer.

The move from managing and approving of signs under a bylaw to a policy requires the revocation of the existing Signs Bylaw 2015 and an amendment to the Public Places, Parks and Reserves Bylaw 2016.
The Council considers that the combination of the policy and amended Public Places, Parks and Reserves Bylaw 2016 is the most appropriate way to address signage within public places and does not give rise to implications under the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act 1990.
