Restricted fire season – Whanganui coast and urban area

Fire and Emergency NZ has advised that the Manawatū-Whanganui Coastal Zone will move to a restricted fire season from 8am on Friday 12 January until further notice due to warm temperatures, drying winds and a lack of rainfall.
A restricted fire season means anyone planning on lighting an open-air fire will need a permit.
Please be aware of the fire risk conditions – if in doubt, don't light!

Apply for rates remission

For the 2023/24 financial year (starting in July 2023) the council is making a one-off rates remission (reduction) of up to $500 available for households facing a rates rise higher than $700.

Whanganui District Council is consulting on its proposed Arts and Culture Strategic Plan.

The Plan establishes Council's strategic direction for arts and culture over the next ten years. Through engagement with our creative communities, an overarching vision has been developed – 'creativity is at the heart of our identity'. This vision is supported by five goals:

Mana whenua participation
Championing arts and culture
Connected creative communities
A prosperous creative economy
Access and engagement for all
