Restricted fire season – Whanganui coast and urban area

Fire and Emergency NZ has advised that the Manawatū-Whanganui Coastal Zone will move to a restricted fire season from 8am on Friday 12 January until further notice due to warm temperatures, drying winds and a lack of rainfall.
A restricted fire season means anyone planning on lighting an open-air fire will need a permit.
Please be aware of the fire risk conditions – if in doubt, don't light!

Apply for rates remission

For the 2023/24 financial year (starting in July 2023) the council is making a one-off rates remission (reduction) of up to $500 available for households facing a rates rise higher than $700.

Keeping of Animals, Poultry and Bees

Animals are an important part of how we choose to live our lives and the enjoyment we get out of them.

Submissions closed at 5.00pm on Friday, 15 November 2019.

This includes our pets and livestock, poultry and bees. The Council is in the process of reviewing the Keeping of Animals, Poultry and Bees Bylaw and is interested to see if it has got the balance right between recognising the importance of animals whilst ensuring that they don’t create a nuisance to surrounding neighbours.

Any comments or feedback that we receive will go towards informing the bylaw review and deciding what, if any, changes are required to the bylaw.

The Council will then go through a formal consultation process with the opportunity for public submissions and hearings.
