Whanganui District Council is conducting a district-wide survey to assess the level of internet access and digital confidence in our community.

The survey runs from 12 noon on Thursday, 13 January 2022 until 5.00pm on Friday, 25 February 2022.

This survey will help the council better understand the current state of internet access and digital confidence in Whanganui, and assist the access or support people may need through libraries, community organisations and businesses.

We hope to use the information from this survey to develop an annual check-in for our digital capabilities so we can continue to make Whanganui a better online environment for all.

Anyone in the Whanganui District is welcome to complete the survey. There will opportunities for those who do not use the internet to participate with a paper survey form, at events or by phone.

During the survey period, Whanganui District Council staff and volunteers will be attending community events and door-knocking in some areas so we can reach as many people as possible.

If someone asks you to complete a survey, they will be wearing a Whanganui District Council lanyard to identify them as a council staff member. You are welcome to request this at anytime or call 027 220 2984 if you are unsure if the person is genuine. Please note that all COVID-19 safety measures will be adhered to.

If you would like to attend an event or other location to complete the survey in person, please email digital@whanganui.govt.nz or call 027 220 2984.

Tuatahi delivers the world-class ultra-fast broadband fibre network in Whanganui as well as neighbouring communities across Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Taranaki. They worked closely with Whanganui District Council in 2015 to make our district one of the first places in New Zealand to receive the fibre rollout.

Tuatahi are committed to building better, brighter and more connected communities in our district – driving increased productivity, learning, growth and prosperity – and have partnered with the council to make this possible.

At the end of the survey, you'll be invited to provide your personal details to go into the draw for these great prizes:

  • One of 12 $25 Prezzy Cards
  • One of three digital tablets

The draw will take place the week commencing 28 February 2022 using a random number generator. Winners will be personally notified via the contact method they provide in the survey. The winner must live in the Whanganui District. If a winner is uncontactable after two weeks for any prize, it will be redrawn. This information will only be held and used for the purpose of this prize draw.

All information provided will be used in accordance with Whanganui District Council’s privacy statement. Any personal information that you provide, including names, addresses and household demographics, will not be held or shared publicly.

The results will be used to support digital initiatives and funding opportunities for Whanganui and to provide a publicly-available map to show digital connectivity at a suburb level only.
