Rural rubbish collection

Rural Waste Depot.jpg

Whanganui District Council provides rubbish collection services in certain rural areas only where private providers do not operate.

Council rubbish collection services

The council offers the following rubbish drop-off services for outer rural residents that aren't in the gate-collection service area offered by private rubbish collectors:

Rubbish bag collection points

See rubbish bag collection sites on >>this map<<. Residents in these areas that do not receive a private gate-collection service can drop-off rubbish bags in the designated sites, with these restrictions:

  • bags can be no larger than 60 litres
  • bags must have a pre-paid white sticker attached (these can be bought from most dairies and supermarkets)
  • bags need to be placed at the bag collection point no later than 7.00am on the day of collection.

Outer rural rubbish skip drop-off points

The council provides outer rural rubbish skip drop-off points at 13 sites within the district.

Sites are a mix of weekly and fortnightly pick-ups. These sites are for the deposit of normal household / domestic rubbish by locals – no animal, toxic or commercial waste is allowed.

Private rubbish collection services

Private rubbish collection providers offer a user-pays gate pick-up service of rubbish bags (white sticker required) and wheelie bins to the inner rural areas highlighted in red on this map.

The service areas on this map may be subject to change by the collection providers. Rural residents eligible for this service should directly contact one of the rubbish collectors in our district for details of the service.
