Youth Committee send off summer with an exciting music festival

The Whanganui District Council Youth Committee will be hosting an outdoor music event with an exciting line-up of live entertainment, catering to Whanganui Youth on Saturday 20 February.

The So Long Summer Festival, initially suggested by Youth Councillor Amaan Merchant was created as an event to showcase Whanganui’s diverse range of musical talent. Youth Councillor Jack Southee said the Council have been planning the Festival since mid-2015 when the idea for the festival was first suggested.

‘With the absence of the Picnic in the Park due to the floods which devastated Kowhai Park during June last year, we thought it would be great to use this as an opportunity to re-think what we as a group could offer to the youth of Whanganui.’

The Festival will kick off with live music along Victoria Avenue between 12pm and 3pm followed by an evening concert held in Majestic Square between 5pm and 8pm. Featured artists include Te Paerata Tichbon, DC Harding & The Experience and Wildcard.

Admission to the Festival is completely free.
