Whanganui District Council Principal Advisor, Marianne Cavanagh has been awarded an Overseas Manager Exchange to Queensland, Australia, sponsored by JLT.
The Exchange, which was announced at the NZ Society of Local Government Managers’ (SOLGM) annual Gala Dinner in Auckland on April 12, provides leadership and development opportunities specifically tailored to the local government environment.
Judges praised Marianne’s considerable enthusiasm for gaining an international perspective in local government.
“Marianne demonstrated not only what she could gain from an exchange, but also the best experience she could provide as a host, said Fiona Purchas, SOLGM’s Manager of Professional Development.
“She also has a wide experience in shared services, community engagement and empowerment within both small and large councils”.
The exchange involves a hosted visit to Queensland, and a reciprocal visit to Whanganui.
“The Gala Dinner is a very special event for the local government sector” says SOLGM’s Chief Executive Karen Thomas.
“It recognises the outstanding contribution and commitment to communities. Throughout New Zealand local government professionals are investing in their professional development. We are proud to acknowledge and celebrate this, and the important impact that local government professionals have on the communities we all serve.
“Marianne is a well-deserved recipient of this exchange, and we are very grateful to JLT their support.”
Also announced at the dinner were seven exceptional and innovative project winners, including a supreme award winner, leadership scholarships, and a management challenge winning team.
